Maupiti's airstrip is located on a motu off the main island. In outlying island tradition, the "terminal" is a small open shelter, with a couple of airline personnel to collect tickets and help with luggage. There's a tiny snack bar (open for the daily flight) and a pier for the boats that take passengers to the island. The shelter floor is a bed of seashells - nice touch, if a bit impractical for rolling luggage.
View from our room at the Tautiare Village. The pension has four (huge) rooms. A dining room/lounge was built last year. A kitchen is in the works, for now they use the family home kitchen to prepare meals.
Watching Le Tiki Toa ("tiki power", the French Polynesian national side) slay the Argentinians in the beach soccer world cup. This was their finest moment - they proceeded to lose to champions Russia in the semifinal. Russia turns out to be the dominant power in world beach soccer.
